Go For The Gold – Day 2

June 30, 2009 by Mr. McNallan · Leave a Comment

Hello everyone, we hope your having a great summer we definitely are! We’ve had 2-Days of Action-Packed classes. Every morning we start off with different plyometric drills. This type of training is the same that Olympic sparrers & professional boxers use to develop ‘fast twitch muscles’. These kind of exercises are very challenging, however watch the video above and you’ll see one of our Tiny Tigers perform one of the hardest, and most advance plyometric drill.

Let us know what you think!

Instructor Certification Camp

Personalized attention - martial arts instructor

Over the weekend, I attended the Instructor Certification Camp and Leadership Seminar in Upstate New York. It was a great weekend, and I had the opportunity to spend a lot of time with Master McInerney, Master Capobianco, and Senior Master Dunn.

I really think everyone should prepare and go if you are thinking about teaching. It’s a perfect place to see how you stack up against some of the other instructors. You also get to hang out and exchange ideas with everyone else. I’m not going to lie, the showers were not what I would call luxury. And if you go next year, be sure to get there early so you get a good bed, but all-in-all it was very worth the time and effort.

I think one of the most impressive parts was watching Certification. As everyone tested, it became obvious that approximately 75% of the instructors are State Champs. Really, the quality of the martial artists was amazing. When it came to the instructing, it’s no surprise that ATA has some of the best students.

My only regret is that I could not do both the Certification camp and the Leadership Camp. I really wanted to climb the rock wall and go down the zipline. Master Mac, if you are reading this, maybe you could make that suggestion for next year.

I want to thank all the “Mac Black Belts” for allowing me to be a part of the family. And congrats to Mr. Eugenio, the 2 Ms. Odejars, Mr. Nodelman, Mr. Alessi (What a guy!), Mrs. Foster, the Heredias, Ms. Esperitu, Team Chi and anyone I happened to miss. Everyone there helped me to get the goal I set.

ATA Green Program

June 1, 2009 by Mr. McNallan · Leave a Comment

During the entire month of April, ATA Martial Arts of Branchburg NJ is asking all of it’s students and their families to perform 5-10 acts of environmental self-defense. Our goal is to perform 1,000 acts of environmental self-defense within the next 6 months.

These can be simple acts such as: conserving energy by unplugging unused electronics at home, checking car tire pressure regularly to ensure better gas mileage, recycling, using reusable shopping bags or picking up trash in a local park. Then document them by writing them down and attaching a picture.

10 Simple Things you can do to defend the EARTH

Posted by ATA Green

  1. Turn off lights, TV and computer when not being used.
  2. Don’t let water run continuously when brushing teeth or washing dishes.
  3. Reuse scrap paper for lists, notes or crafts, then recycle it.
  4. Bring a shopping bag to use when shopping. Recycle used plastic bags at the supermarket.
  5. Change a light bulb! Consider using compact florescent bulbs in some locations to save energy.
  6. Separate and recycle; paper, cardboard, glass, plastic, aluminum cans.
  7. Donate unwanted but wearable clothing to churches and homeless shelters. Use unwearable clothing for craft projects or rags.
  8. Avoid Styrofoam cups. Bring a travel mug, your coffee will stay hotter and taste better.
  9. Support your local farmer; buy locally produced food when possible and save tons of energy.
  10. Plan a garden. You can grow your own organic food to save energy and money.
